Chengdu is one of the top 8 hubs of telecommunication in China, and is also the network station of Chinese “8-verticals and 8-horizontals” optical fiber trunk lines. Transmission of long distance calls and local calls has been digitalized with access to over 180 countries and regions and over 600 domestic cities.
The Chengdu Information Station has been established with the internet data center and the internet switch center being in service now. The total bandwidth of broadband Internet transmission is 3,200G, outlet bandwidth of metropolitan area network over 100G, outlet bandwidth over 30G and access bandwidth of 40G per second. Chengdu is linked to the eight regional centers and international outlet through high speed interfaces. By 2010, the total bandwidth of trunk transmission will exceed 8,000G, and the bandwidth of the metropolitan area network will be upgraded to 450G and increase its outbound network capability to 200G. Chengdu municipal government had decided to invest RMB 50 billion to build a nation-level telecom hub in 2008. By 2011, Chengdu will become, after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the fourth biggest city in China in information broadcast.
