On April 19, 2011, Chengdu Tianfu Software Park (TSP) announced that EMC Global had established its third research and development centre in China within the country's largest professional software park. The facility follows the company's earlier establishment of R&D centres in Shanghai and Beijing. The new R&D facility in Tianfu Software Park will support the EMC West China sales headquarters, which is also located in the park, to better serve Southwest and Northwest China and promote the business development of EMC in the Greater China region.

"Chengdu has good talent, business and government resources for innovation, and its unique livable environment also attracts many international talents to settle in it. This is what we value the most," said EMC Global Senior Vice President and EMC Asia Pacific and Japan President Steve Leonard in Chengdu yesterday. "Chengdu has become an important part of EMC's global strategy."
As EMC Global R&D Center develops in Chengdu, it will bring more software services outsourcing businesses to Chengdu."Last year, the software services outsourcing revenue of Chengdu ranked fifth in China. We hope that as R&D centers of Fortune 500 companies such as EMC settle down in Chengdu, we can greatly increase our software services outsourcing revenue and enter the top 3 list of China," said a leader from Chengdu Hi-tech Zone.
"This is a 5-year love," said EMC China R&D Group General Manager Li Ying. When EMC established its first R&D center in China in 2006, Chengdu had already entered its field of vision. It is a long-planned target of EMC to set up its third R&D center in Chengdu. "Since 2006, we have come to Chengdu to recruit talents every year. The quality of talent here is better than expected. Chengdu is also a city that we like very much. Each department of our company competes to come here to recruit talents," said Li Ying. He also said that Chengdu has a working environment that is very suitable for innovation. EMC hopes to take full advantage of the talent pool in Chengdu and to cooperate with more local universities and research institutions to complete EMC's global R&D projects and make great innovations together in the future. Now, the center has started recruitment and is expected to run in the second half of 2011.
