Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone(hereinafter referred to as "Chengdu Hi-tech Zone" for short) was approved by the State Council and established in 1991. Covering an area of 130 km2, Chengdu Hi-tech Zone consists of the south industrial park and the west industrial park. With a planned area of 43 km2, the west industrial park has been established into a comprehensive zone for industrial agglomeration with comprehensive functionalities and focusing on electronic information, bio-pharmaceuticals, and precision machinery manufacturing industries. With a planned area of 87 km2, the south industrial park, which is more commonly referred to as the "New Tianfu City" was planned as an international technology and business city focusing on technological innovation, software research and development, economy based on headquarters of companies, and modern service industries. At present, the south industrial park is established as a "three-industry system" of electronic information industry, bio-pharmaceutical industry, and precision machinery manufacturing industry.
